Pallet racking may be sold by the bay or complete warehouse layout, but trucks carry bundles and individual components. Uprights, beams, decking, and hardware need a shipping list that reflects how they are actually prepared. Confirm that list before requesting equipment.
Count components after dismantling
Record upright frames by height and depth, beams by length, decking by size, and separate accessories. Include the dimensions and weights of finished bundles or pallets rather than only the installed rack layout.
For used racking, identify who dismantles it and when the work will finish. A purchase agreement for an installed system does not necessarily include removal, bundling, or loading.
Package for support and identification
Have the responsible handling team determine how frames and beams will be bundled and supported without bending or damaging them. Mark bundles by component type or installation area.
Secure small parts in suitable containers and label them to match the shipment. Loose clips, anchors, or hardware mixed with long steel components can become difficult to reconcile when the delivery is unloaded.
Review long pieces and loading access
Send photos of the prepared bundles and describe the forklift or crane available at each end. Confirm whether the lifting equipment can handle the actual length and weight of each unit.
Do not choose trailer space from total weight alone. Long uprights may occupy substantial deck length, and the carrier needs enough information to assess support, securement, and compatibility with any other freight.
Make the delivery inventory usable
Provide the receiver with the bundle list before arrival and identify an unloading area that allows counts to be checked. Record missing or visibly damaged pieces during the handoff.
For quoting, send bundle dimensions, weights, count, loading arrangements, route, and ready date. If dismantling changes the number or size of bundles, update the request before dispatch rather than relying on the seller’s original estimate.
