Granite and marble slabs require a freight plan built around the transport support system and the people handling it. A slab count and delivery address are not enough. Before requesting a truck, establish how the stone will be prepared, loaded, and received.

Identify the complete transport package

Provide the stone type, slab count, individual identifiers, and the total prepared shipment weight. Send dimensions and photographs of each loaded rack, bundle, or crate, including the supporting structure.

Ask the stone supplier to confirm that the transport packaging and rack are suitable for the specific load and intended movement. Do not treat a storage rack as transport-ready without that confirmation. Carrier acceptance of the complete arrangement must be established before pickup.

Keep matched slabs identifiable

Where slabs are selected as a matched group, identify that relationship on the packing list. Record slab or bundle numbers so the receiving team can reconcile the order without relying only on color descriptions.

For a hypothetical countertop project, two visually similar bundles may be assigned to different customers. Clear identifiers help prevent a delivery mix-up. Include photographs and condition records prepared by the supplier before the shipment is released.

Confirm specialist handling at both locations

Identify the parties responsible for loading and unloading, along with the equipment and qualified personnel they will provide. Share the supplier’s handling requirements with the carrier and receiver. A destination address does not establish that the facility can unload slabs.

Stone slab movement presents serious handling hazards. The Natural Stone Institute provides dedicated slab-handling safety resources. Have trained personnel determine and perform the handling procedure; a freight quote is not a substitute for that plan.

Resolve rack ownership and receiving changes

State whether the rack is sold with the stone, loaned, exchanged, or expected back. If a return is required, document its destination and timing and request separate transportation pricing where appropriate.

Confirm the receiving appointment and space for the shipment before dispatch. If the receiver cannot accept the load, contact the shipper and transportation provider for an approved plan. For a quote, submit the loaded rack measurements, weight, slab list, lane, dates, handling requirements, and rack-return terms.
