Bagged landscaping materials can create a shipment that reaches weight constraints before it fills the available floor space. Whether the order is going to a distributor or a landscape contractor, the quote should be based on complete prepared pallets and a workable unloading plan.

Use actual prepared pallet information

List the product, bag count, pallet count, packaged dimensions, and total shipping weight. Include the pallet and packaging rather than multiplying the advertised bag weight and treating that as the complete shipment.

Separate different products or pallet configurations on the shipping list. A mixed order of bagged decorative stone and lighter landscape products should not be described with one assumed weight per pallet. Ask the supplier to confirm the final numbers.

Confirm packaging and weather requirements

Have the shipper inspect pallets and packaging before release. Torn bags, damaged pallets, or unstable packages should be resolved by the responsible party before pickup. Identify any product-specific restrictions on moisture or exposure.

Ask the supplier whether pallets are approved for stacking and share that information with the carrier. Do not assume bagged material can support another pallet simply because its top surface looks level.

Match equipment to the prepared load

Provide the carrier with pallet dimensions and weights for equipment and loading-plan review. Total trailer capacity alone does not establish that a particular arrangement is suitable.

If the receiver requests a liftgate, send the dimensions and weight of each handling unit and have the service provider confirm feasibility. A liftgate request does not replace the receiver’s plan for moving heavy material after it reaches the agreed delivery point.

Define distributor delivery versus jobsite delivery

Confirm whether unloading takes place at a commercial dock, contractor yard, or installation site. Share truck access, receiving hours, unloading equipment, and the contact authorized to accept the order.

For a quote, include the lane, dates, product inventory, full pallet weights, measurements, and protection needs. State whether a single delivery or multiple stops are required. If the contractor changes the delivery location after ordering, reconfirm the transportation arrangement before dispatch.
