Generator Shipping: Quote the Complete Unit, Base, and Fuel System

A generator shipment can be a portable unit, skid-mounted machine, or large enclosed system. The same power rating does not establish shipping size or loading method. Quote the actual transport configuration and clarify where the trucking assignment ends.

Measure everything that travels

Include the enclosure, skid, exhaust components, protruding connections, and separate accessories. Record verified weight and whether it includes fluids, a base tank, or trailer.

If trailer-mounted, clarify whether the unit will be hauled as cargo or moved on its own running gear. Those arrangements require separate equipment and suitability checks.

Use approved lifting information

Obtain manufacturer instructions for lifting points, center of gravity, and support. Identify who supplies the crane or forklift and who performs the lift at each site.

Do not assume enclosure handles or visible brackets can lift the full unit. Share lifting documents with the handling contractor and carrier before pickup.

Disclose fuel and batteries

Tell the shipping team what fuel, fluids, and battery systems are present. The responsible shipper should determine applicable transport requirements and preparation with qualified personnel.

Avoid asking a driver to decide classification or drain systems upon arrival. A generator ready for operation may need additional preparation before transport.

Define delivery and placement

Delivery to a jobsite does not necessarily include lifting the generator onto its permanent pad. Identify access, crane scheduling, rigging responsibility, and the exact unloading point.

Send dimensions, weight, photos, manufacturer instructions, origin, destination, and required date. If installation cannot proceed immediately, identify a safe receiving or staging plan before booking.
