Moving a CNC machine involves more than placing a heavy object on a truck. Sensitive assemblies, approved lifting points, and preparation procedures can determine whether it arrives ready for installation. Start with the manufacturer’s transport instructions and a qualified machinery rigger.
Define the shipping configuration
Record the model, transport dimensions, weight, and separate components such as chip conveyors, cabinets, and coolant equipment. Include the skid or crate in measurements.
Have the manufacturer or qualified service provider identify required transport locks, axis restraints, electrical disconnection, and fluid preparation. Different machines need different procedures; a generic checklist is not permission to disconnect or lift the equipment.
Plan rigging on both ends
Identify who removes the machine from its operating location and who places it at destination. Provide doorway dimensions, interior restrictions, loading access, and available handling equipment to the rigging team.
Separate building removal, crane work, trucking, unloading, and final positioning in the scope. Transportation to a dock does not automatically include setting the machine on the shop floor.
Specify protection and support
Ask the responsible specialists to identify support points and areas that must not be contacted by straps, chains, or coverings. Share those instructions before equipment selection.
Determine whether the cargo requires enclosed transport, a Conestoga, crating, or another protection method. Weather protection alone does not resolve vibration, shifting, or concentrated loads on the machine’s base.
Document the handoff
Photograph the prepared machine, accessories, packaging, and visible condition. Label separate parts and reconcile inventory at delivery.
Request a quote using the prepared dimensions, loading plan, delivery access, value, and handling instructions. Confirm cargo coverage requirements before booking and schedule the installer independently unless that work is expressly included.
