Glass shipped on an A-frame or another purpose-built rack needs a transportation plan for the complete loaded assembly. The rack affects dimensions, weight, access, and unloading. Establish how it will be supported, moved, and returned before requesting a truck.
Identify the rack and its loaded configuration
Provide the rack type, overall loaded dimensions, gross weight, and the glass supplier’s transport instructions. Include projections and protective packaging. State whether the rack is loaded on one or both sides.
Do not use a generic rack description as confirmation that it is suitable for the product. The supplier should approve the arrangement for the specific glass, including any coated or finished surfaces.
Separate glass restraint from rack securement
Ask the supplier to specify how the glass is retained within the rack and which rack points are approved for transport handling. The carrier must also establish how the complete assembly is secured to the vehicle.
A rack that keeps panes together does not automatically prevent the rack itself from moving. Share drawings or photographs that make the support and access requirements clear.
Define unloading before equipment selection
Confirm whether the receiver removes a complete loaded rack or unloads individual pieces using qualified personnel and suitable equipment. Identify access from the required side and room to work.
If the shipment is going to a building project, distinguish roadside delivery from movement into the building or installation. Confirm each service explicitly.
Track the reusable equipment
Record rack ownership, identifying numbers, and any agreed empty-return arrangement. Confirm who supplies an acceptable replacement rack if an exchange is required.
Request a quote using the complete loaded measurements, handling instructions, route, unloading method, and delivery date. Flag any uncertainty about the receiving method before the truck is booked.
