A crate can fit within a vehicle’s nominal cargo space and still fail to pass through its door. Large crates need a review of the loading path as well as the space they occupy after loading. Measure the finished package before deciding which equipment to request.
Measure the outside of the finished crate
Include skid runners, lifting features, bracing, handles, and protrusions. Record the total packaged weight and any restriction on tilting, turning, or laying the crate on its side.
Do not quote the dimensions of the product inside. If crating is not complete, identify the measurements as estimates and establish when the final package will be confirmed.
Check the narrowest point of the loading path
Ask the provider to verify the actual equipment’s door opening and usable interior dimensions. Consider the space needed to move and position the crate using the proposed handling equipment.
Passing the doorway does not prove the crate can be turned or placed inside. Drawings or loading photos can help explain tight clearances, but final suitability needs review by the responsible parties.
Identify alternatives without compromising protection
If rear loading will not work, discuss equipment with appropriate side or top access, a different approved package, or another suitable handling plan. State the product’s weather and contact-protection requirements at the same time.
Do not assume removing crate panels or tilting the package is acceptable. Changes require approval from the party responsible for packaging and the product.
Confirm the destination can reverse the process
Review unloading access, handling equipment, receiving space, and any building restrictions. A successful pickup does not prove the destination can remove the same crate.
Send exact dimensions, weight, photographs, orientation limits, and both handling plans when requesting a quote. Ask for confirmation against the specific vehicle proposed for the load.
