Moving a printing press involves more than transporting one large machine. The equipment may travel as multiple sections with controls, feeders, delivery units, and separate accessories. The useful starting point is a technical relocation plan that defines what the trucks will carry.

Get the shipping configuration from the technical team

Provide the manufacturer, model, serial number, and current configuration. Ask the manufacturer or qualified press relocation provider to determine which sections will move separately and how they must be prepared, protected, and handled.

Obtain dimensions and weights for each prepared shipping unit. Operating dimensions from a sales brochure may not describe the dismantled equipment or its packaging. Use the shipping configuration when evaluating trailers and loading arrangements.

Track the parts that support the press

Create an inventory of detached controls, cabinets, peripheral equipment, and accessory crates. Identify which components belong to each press section and label them consistently with the packing list.

Photograph equipment condition before packing and preserve the technical team’s records of removed components. Software backups, settings, mechanical alignment, and reconnection belong with qualified personnel. Make clear who owns those tasks so they do not disappear between the seller, buyer, and transportation provider.

Assign the rigging and transportation handoffs

Confirm who moves the sections through the origin building and loads the trailer. At destination, identify the unloading contractor and the party responsible for moving equipment into its final position. Truck arrival should coincide with confirmed receiving capability.

Ask for the required loading orientation and approved support locations in writing. Have the carrier review the proposed shipment and loading arrangement. Do not use a generic machine weight as a substitute for section-level handling information.

Schedule delivery and restart as separate milestones
