“We support our agents” sounds reassuring. Before choosing a brokerage, find out what that means during a normal workday and during a difficult shipment.
Support arrangements vary. The best recruiting conversation connects each task to a person, a process, and a clear expectation.
Walk through a shipment from start to finish
Start with a customer requesting a quote. Who reviews the account? Who confirms the shipment requirements? Who sources the carrier and checks that the booking can proceed?
Continue through pickup, transit updates, delivery, paperwork, and billing. Ask which parts you would own and which would involve someone else.
This walkthrough is more useful than a broad list of services because it shows where responsibilities meet. It can also expose a task that both sides assumed the other would handle.
Ask how exceptions are handled
Use a realistic scenario: a driver arrives late, the receiver refuses delivery, or a customer disputes detention. Who needs to be informed? Who can authorize the next step? What documentation should the agent collect?
Discuss availability and escalation procedures explicitly. Avoid assuming that a general business phone line means a dedicated operations employee will always be available to manage your load.
Clarify paperwork and billing responsibilities
Missing documents can create extra work long after delivery. Ask who collects proofs of delivery, follows up on missing records, submits invoices, and communicates about billing disputes.
Then ask how those issues affect the agent’s workflow and commission process. Knowing what you need to submit—and when—helps both sides establish workable expectations.
Understand the tools and training available
Ask which systems the role uses and what onboarding covers. If you need help learning a platform or adapting to a process, raise that early. Likewise, be clear about the experience you already bring.
Technology access and hands-on operational assistance are different needs. Discuss each one rather than assuming they come as a package.
Tell 2A what support you need
At 2A Logistics, prospective agents are encouraged to explain how they currently work and where they need assistance. That creates a practical starting point for discussing whether an arrangement makes sense.
Come prepared with two or three specific situations you want to understand. A concrete example gives us more to discuss than a general request for “better support.”
