A forklift shipping quote needs more than the lift capacity stamped on the machine. Lift capacity describes what the forklift is designed to handle under specified conditions; it is not the forklift’s own shipping weight.

Use the actual machine weight and transport dimensions. Counterweights, attachments, mast configuration, and battery equipment can make similar-looking forklifts very different shipments.

Measure the machine for transport

Record overall length, width, and height in the approved travel configuration. Include the forks or other attachments unless they will be removed and shipped separately. Identify the lowered mast height and any component that remains above it.

Provide the make, model, serial information when useful, and photos. If the data plate or manual gives weight information, explain what configuration it covers. Added equipment may change the actual transport weight.

Describe operating condition

Can the forklift start, drive, steer, and brake? Can its mast and attachments be placed in the transport position? Does it have enough ground clearance for the proposed loading method?

A running machine still needs an operator and an approved loading plan. If it cannot move under its own power, specify that before asking for a truck so a suitable handling arrangement can be reviewed.

Disclose the power system

Tell the broker whether the forklift is electric, propane-powered, diesel, or another type. Describe batteries, fuel containers, spare cylinders, and anything else traveling with the machine. The carrier can then review applicable handling and transportation requirements.

Do not remove, disconnect, or package power components based on a generic freight article. Use the manufacturer’s instructions and appropriately qualified personnel.

Select equipment around loading and height

A forklift might travel on different types of equipment depending on its size, weight, condition, and site access. Ramps, a low deck, or facility handling equipment may be relevant. Confirm that the proposed trailer and loading equipment suit the concentrated weight and wheel configuration.

A machine that fits on the deck still needs appropriate placement and securement.

Coordinate both facilities

• Confirm who operates or handles the forklift at pickup.
• Reserve adequate loading and maneuvering space.
• Confirm unloading resources and receiving hours.
• Document the machine’s condition before collection.
• Identify loose parts and accessories on the paperwork.

If the buyer’s facility cannot unload the machine, solve that before pickup rather than assuming the delivering truck will provide additional equipment.

Send the route, timing, final measurements, weight, power type, operational condition, and site information together. Distinguish verified details from estimates.
